Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 40 and 85 years old
- People with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) of 35 or below
- People who have been told by a doctor that they have osteoarthritis affecting the inner side of the knee
- People who rate their knee pain while walking as at least 4 out of 10 on a pain scale
- People who are willing to wear the assigned knee brace for at least 4 hours per day
- People who are able to walk on their own for 20 minutes without any walking aids
- People whose pain medication has remained unchanged for at least the past 4 weeks
- People who have not had a hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma, or steroid injection into the knee within the last 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose osteoarthritis affects the outer side of the knee or the kneecap area
- People who have previously had a knee replacement
- People with a significant knee ligament injury or a recent injury to the lower limb
- People with a neurological condition that affects the way they walk
- People with a severe psychiatric or neurological condition that affects how they perceive pain
- People with a skin condition or allergy that would prevent them from wearing a knee brace
- People who are currently using another knee brace or walking aid
- People who have used opioid pain medicines or corticosteroid medicines within the past 4 weeks
- People who are pregnant
