Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who came to the emergency department (ED) because of an asthma attack
- People who have been diagnosed with asthma, either through official medical classification or by the doctor treating them at the time
- People who were sent home from the ED with asthma attack listed as their main diagnosis
- People who were given steroid medication (such as a pill or injection, not just an inhaler) during their ED visit
- People who speak English or Spanish
Who may not be able to join:
- People who were already taking steroid medication before arriving at the ED, including any given by paramedics on the way to hospital
- People who have had serious bad reactions to steroid medications in the past
- People who have heart failure or diabetes that is not well controlled (specifically, a blood sugar level above 300mg/dL measured in the ED)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are not able to give their own consent to participate in the study
