Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between the ages of 55 and 90 years old
  • People who have been diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's disease based on recognised medical diagnostic guidelines
  • People with mild memory or thinking problems, or very mild Alzheimer's disease, with specific scores on standard memory tests (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have certain types of physical changes in their brain shown on an MRI scan, such as bleeding, stroke, tumours, or swelling
  • People with uncontrolled conditions affecting metabolism, such as thyroid problems, low blood sugar, or liver or kidney issues, or who take certain long-term medications that can affect memory and thinking
  • People who have a history of epilepsy (seizures), depression, or other mental health conditions, or who experience visual hallucinations or rapid changes in their thinking or memory
  • People with mental health conditions that are not covered by the inclusion requirements above
  • People with a history of serious illnesses such as cancer or tuberculosis
  • People who currently take or have a history of taking medications or drugs that affect the brain or nervous system
  • People who have skin conditions such as contact dermatitis or known skin sensitivity
  • People with a very high fever (40°C or above, measured in the ear)
  • People who have had bleeding related to a procedure or surgery in the past 3 months that could affect their general health
  • People who are unable to have an MRI scan
  • People who are pregnant
  • People whose CT scan shows calcium deposits in the brain
  • People who are known to be allergic to certain contrast dyes used in scans (such as Definity or Gadovist)
  • People whose doctor or the trial team feels it would not be appropriate for them to take part, for any other reason
