Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Men aged 19 years or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy), at an early to moderate stage (T1 to T3a, with no spread to lymph nodes or other parts of the body)
  • People who are scheduled to have a robot-assisted surgical removal of the prostate at Samsung Medical Center
  • People whose cancer shows no signs of having spread to distant parts of the body, and whose cancer is considered suitable for robotic surgery
  • People who are considered medically well enough for general anaesthesia and keyhole-style surgery (rated as ASA class I, II, or III — a standard measure of overall health before surgery)
  • People who had satisfactory erectile function in the 6 months before surgery, based on a standard questionnaire score of 12 or above (IIEF-5 score)
  • People who have given written consent to participate after being fully informed about the study

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose prostate cancer has reached a more advanced local stage (T3b or higher) or has spread to lymph nodes or distant areas of the body
  • People whose prostate gland is 60cc or larger in size as measured on an MRI scan before surgery
  • People who have previously had radiation therapy to the pelvis for any cancer
  • People who have previously received hormone-reducing therapy (androgen deprivation therapy) or other hormonal treatments for prostate cancer
  • People who have had previous surgery on the prostate, such as TURP or HoLEP (procedures used to treat urinary problems)
  • People who have a history of spinal cord injury or major pelvic surgery that may have changed the normal structure of the pelvic area
  • People who have serious heart or lung conditions, or any other medical reason that makes robotic or keyhole surgery or general anaesthesia unsafe (rated ASA class IV or higher)
  • People with physical characteristics — such as extreme obesity or significant bodily deformity — that could make robotic surgery unsafe
  • People where a technical problem with the robotic system's force feedback feature prevents it from being properly used during the study
  • People who have any other condition that the lead researcher considers unsuitable for participation, such as a condition affecting the ability to give consent or attend follow-up appointments
