Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 to 45 years who are of reproductive age
  • People who have a medical reason for needing a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (a hormonal IUD), such as heavy or irregular periods, painful periods, endometriosis, adenomyosis, hormone-related uterine bleeding problems, need for uterine lining protection during hormone replacement therapy, or a non-cancerous thickening of the uterine lining

  • People who have read and signed a consent form and agreed to take part voluntarily

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently pregnant or have a history of pregnancy (confirm with trial site)
  • People currently using hormone therapy
  • People who have a mass or growth on or near their ovaries
  • People with serious ongoing health conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes, advanced heart disease, active cancer (especially hormone-sensitive cancers), severe liver or kidney failure, or certain immune system diseases
  • People with medical reasons that would make a hormonal IUD unsafe, such as a suspected pregnancy, a significant structural problem with the uterus, an active pelvic infection, severe liver disease, or a personal history of breast cancer
  • People with a psychological disability
  • People who do not agree to sign the consent form
  • People who would not be able to attend follow-up appointments
