Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 70 years old who have been diagnosed with a stroke (either a blockage-type or bleeding-type stroke) that occurred more than 6 months ago
- People with moderate to severe weakness in their arm or hand, based on a specific arm movement assessment (scoring between 20 and 50 out of 66 on a standard scale)
- People who are able to communicate and understand instructions, as measured by a short mental awareness test (scoring 23 or above out of 30)
- People with mild or no muscle stiffness in their upper arm or hand (scoring 2 or below on a standard stiffness scale)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who use an electrical stimulation device in their body, such as a pacemaker or nerve stimulator
- People who have a medical or mental health condition — such as a personality disorder, anxiety, or depression — that the trial site determines would prevent participation in the study
- People who have received a Botox injection into the affected arm or hand within the 4 weeks before joining (confirm with trial site)
- People with severe muscle stiffness in their upper arm or hand (scoring 3 or above on a standard stiffness scale)
- People who have difficulty swallowing or significant difficulty with speech and language as a result of their stroke
- People who have certain heart rhythm conditions, such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, sick sinus syndrome, or a heart conduction problem called atrioventricular block
