Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 20 years old or older
- You have been diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) based on specific recognised medical criteria
- You are not currently using a breathing support machine (such as a CPAP or BiPAP mask) and have not had a breathing tube surgically placed in your throat
- You are able to take part in the study activities and sign a consent form yourself, or with help from a communication device
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a long-term lung condition unrelated to ALS, such as COPD or scarring of the lungs
- You have serious difficulties with memory, thinking, or communication that would prevent you from taking part in the study
- You have a heart condition that is not well controlled, such as unstable chest pain, a recent heart attack, severe heart failure, a serious irregular heartbeat, a severely narrowed heart valve, or active heart infection
- Your blood pressure is not well controlled
- You currently have an illness with a fever or feel acutely unwell
- You have recently had a blood clot in your lungs, a severe strain on the right side of your heart, or very high blood pressure in your lung arteries
- You have serious problems with your liver or kidneys
- The trial doctor feels that, for any other reason, joining the trial would not be appropriate for you (confirm with trial site)
