Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Your pancreatitis symptoms started no more than 5 days ago
  • Your pancreatitis has been classified as moderate or severe (based on a standard medical grading system called the Atlanta classification)
  • A CT scan has confirmed your pancreatitis, and the scan shows a severity score of 4 points or higher on a standard rating scale
  • Your overall illness severity score (called APACHE II) is higher than 8 points

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your organ failure score (called SOFA) is higher than 12 points
  • You have a surgical infection in your body that is not yet under control
  • You have developed signs of a serious blood infection (sepsis)
  • Your pancreatitis is a flare-up of a long-term (chronic) pancreatitis condition, rather than a new episode
  • Your blood fat (triglyceride) levels are extremely high — above 1000 mg/dL
  • You have significant liver scarring (cirrhosis) that scores more than 6 points on a standard liver health scale
  • You have a blockage or pressure problem in your bile ducts that has not been treated
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40 or above
  • You have dementia
  • You have advanced kidney disease (stage 4 or 5)
  • You have recently been diagnosed with a blood clot in the lungs (confirmed by CT scan)
  • You had a heart attack within the last 4 weeks
  • You have recently had a stroke
  • You have severe heart failure
  • You have had uncontrolled bleeding or significant blood loss within the last 24 hours
