Who might be able to join this trial:
People with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease):
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been formally diagnosed with ALS using standard diagnostic guidelines
- Your symptoms started less than 24 months (2 years) ago
People who carry a gene linked to ALS but have no symptoms yet:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have a genetic variation known to increase the risk of ALS, and at least one close family member has been diagnosed with ALS
Healthy volunteers (control group):
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have not been diagnosed with any brain/nerve degenerative disease or neuromuscular condition
People with other brain/nerve degenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, FTD, or DLB):
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have a formal diagnosis of one of these conditions made using recognised medical guidelines
People with neuromuscular diseases:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been diagnosed with a nerve condition affecting how signals travel through your nerves (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People with ALS whose lung function has dropped significantly (below 60% of normal breathing capacity)
- People with ALS who are experiencing serious problems with nutrition or breathing
- Anyone — in any group — who has significant liver disease or long-term kidney disease
- Anyone — in any group — who has an active infection or a metabolic condition that could affect certain biological markers being measured in this study (confirm with trial site)
