Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 50 and 75 years old
- Both men and women who have had a stroke are included
- People who had a stroke on one side of the brain, more than 6 months before joining the trial

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have notable abnormalities showing on a resting heart trace (ECG)
- People who have been diagnosed with certain heart or cardiovascular problems
- People who show signs of reduced blood flow to the heart, or a significant irregular heartbeat, detected during an exercise stress test
- People who have been admitted to hospital for a heart or lung condition within the past 3 months
- People who have a pacemaker or an implanted defibrillator device
- People who experience leg pain caused by reduced blood flow when walking (a condition called claudication)
- People who are unable to communicate with the research team or cannot correctly answer questions to show they understand what the trial involves
- People who have severe muscle stiffness in their legs, rated above 2 on a standard scale called the Ashworth scale
- People who experience significant pain in their legs when putting weight on them, rated above 4 out of 10
