Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 80 years, either male or female, who have had their first-ever stroke affecting the back part of the brain (called a posterior-circulation stroke) and are experiencing walking or balance difficulties as a result
- People whose stroke symptoms began no more than 24 hours before being enrolled in the trial — or, for those who woke up with stroke symptoms, within 24 hours of when they were last known to be well
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are severely disabled from their stroke (confirm with trial site regarding the specific disability rating scale used)
- People whose physical or mental health condition would make safe participation difficult, such as those with dementia, significantly reduced consciousness, or severe difficulty communicating
- People who have a neurological condition that causes recurring neurological episodes, such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, or a brain injury that caused lasting neurological problems
- People who received clot-dissolving medication through a vein, or who had a procedure to open blocked blood vessels in the neck, brain, or heart, within the first week of the trial
- People who have had more than one stroke, either based on their medical history or brain scan results
- People who have had a known allergic or sensitivity reaction to the study treatment
- People with serious organ problems such as kidney failure or liver failure, active cancer, a known bleeding or clotting disorder, a history of bleeding in the brain, stomach or bowel bleeding within the past 6 months, or major surgery within 30 days before joining the trial
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose stroke was caused by a blood clot in the brain's veins (cerebral venous thrombosis)
- People whose stroke occurred in connection with a cardiac arrest
