Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are female and aged 18 or older
- People who have been recommended a mastectomy (surgical removal of one or both breasts) either to treat or to reduce the risk of breast cancer
- People with early-stage breast cancer (Stage I or II) who are having surgery as their first treatment
- People with early-stage breast cancer (Stage I or II) who have already had chemotherapy or other systemic treatment before surgery, and whose cancer has shown a partial or full response to that treatment
- People diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a very early form of breast cancer that has not spread beyond the milk ducts
- People who carry a BRCA gene mutation or another gene mutation linked to breast cancer
- People considered to be at high risk of developing breast cancer
- People whose breast size falls within an A to C cup, where the expected implant size would be under 550cc and where there is minimal breast drooping (Grade I or less on a medical scale) (confirm with trial site)
- People who are well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no difficulty (as assessed by a standard medical fitness scale)
- People who have signed and dated a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread into the chest wall or skin
- People with significant spread to nearby lymph nodes at the time of diagnosis (confirm with trial site)
- People diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer
- People where the tumour is less than 1cm away from the nipple area, based on imaging scans
- People who have smoked or used any nicotine products — including cigarettes, vaping, nicotine pouches, or nicotine replacement therapy — within the four weeks before surgery
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 35
- People with serious or poorly managed ongoing health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, or liver problems
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with psychiatric conditions, addiction, or other issues that may affect their ability to fully understand and agree to take part in the trial
- People who have not signed and dated a consent form
