Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who are in the early recovery period after a stroke, specifically between 6 weeks and 6 months after the stroke occurred
- People who have had a stroke for the first time (no previous strokes)
- People whose arm and hand movement has recovered to at least a moderate level, as measured by a standard clinical scale called the Brunnstrom stage (stage 3 or higher)
- People who score 20 or above on a standard memory and thinking test called the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE)
- People who do not have a major medical condition that would prevent them from taking part in the treatment
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have significant pain in the shoulder on their weaker side that would prevent them from doing exercises
- People who have had strokes on both sides of the brain at any point in their life
- People who have severe difficulty with language or thinking that makes it hard to follow along with the treatment
- People who have severe problems with their vision
- People who have a condition where they are unaware of or ignore one side of their body or surroundings (confirm with trial site)
- People who are unable to sit upright and maintain their balance while seated
- People who have very high muscle stiffness in their affected arm, scoring above 4 on a standard clinical scale called the Modified Ashworth Scale
