Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 50 and 85 years of age
- People who have been diagnosed with severe knee joint disease (wear and tear of the knee) based on recognised medical and imaging guidelines
- People who are already on a waiting list for a single knee replacement surgery
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have severe pain (rated 80 or more out of 100) in the opposite leg during everyday activities
- People who have previously had a hip or knee replacement, or a bone-realignment surgery, within the past year
- People who have an autoimmune form of arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
- People who have a health condition that means exercise is medically inadvisable for them
- People who have been regularly exercising more than twice a week at high training intensities in the past six months
- People with a history of stroke, brain surgery, major depression, or self-reported memory or thinking difficulties that could affect participation in the study
- People with certain heart or blood vessel conditions, including uncontrolled high blood pressure, poor circulation in the legs, a history of blood clots in the veins or lungs, heart failure, severe varicose veins, or unmanaged blood-thinning medication use
- People with skin problems or wounds at the area of the body where a pressure cuff would be applied, such as ulcers, open wounds, infections, or significant swelling
- People who are unable to communicate normally or who have significant communication difficulties
