Who might be able to join this trial:
Healthy participants:
- Adults aged 18 or older.
- People with no neurological damage.
- People with no medical conditions that could interfere with the test.
Post-stroke participants:
- Adults aged 18 or older.
- People who have had an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke (a stroke caused by a blockage or by bleeding in the brain) more than 3 months ago.
Who may not be able to join:
Healthy participants:
- People with a medical condition affecting the respiratory, cardiovascular, or metabolic systems, or any other condition that could affect the test.
- People who have experienced pain in any part of the body lasting more than 1 week, at any point in the 3 months before the trial.
Post-stroke participants:
- People who are unable to be transferred or to pedal actively during the test.
- People for whom cardiovascular exercise is medically inadvisable for any reason.
- People who are unable to follow instructions or describe physical sensations during the training.
- People with another neurological condition, certain heart conditions (such as unstable angina, irregular heart rhythms, or problems with the aorta, left ventricle, heart muscle, or outer lining of the heart), certain lung conditions (such as pulmonary embolism or pulmonary hypertension), kidney or metabolic problems (such as severe kidney dysfunction or uncontrolled diabetes), an active infection or fever, or who have had brain surgery within 6 weeks before joining the study.
- People who have experienced pain in any part of the body lasting more than 1 week, at any point in the 3 months before the trial.
- People taking beta-blockers, antidepressants, or any other medication that may affect heart rate measurements.
