Who might be able to join this trial:
- The baby must be between 0 and 3 months old at the time of joining the study.
- The baby must have been born by Cesarean section (C-section), whether it was planned or an emergency.
- The baby must have been born at 36 weeks of pregnancy or later (not very early preterm).
- The baby and their caregiver must live in the United States and have a US mailing address.
Who may not be able to join:
- The baby cannot have been given any probiotic products at any point in their life before joining — this includes probiotic powders, supplements, formula that contains probiotics, or multivitamins that contain probiotics.
- Twins or babies born as part of a multiple birth (e.g., triplets) cannot join.
- The baby cannot have certain digestive conditions, such as Hirschsprung disease, a condition affecting the food pipe or digestive tract due to a type of allergic reaction (EGID/EoE), a serious bowel condition called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), or short bowel syndrome (confirm with trial site).
- The baby cannot have certain immune system conditions, such as Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) or HIV — though skin conditions like eczema and rashes are acceptable.
- The baby cannot have been born with certain conditions, including cleft lip or palate, heart defects present from birth, cerebral palsy, Fragile X syndrome, Down syndrome, spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, PKU, congenital hypothyroidism, or galactosaemia (confirm with trial site if unsure about any of these).
- The baby cannot have a blood disorder such as sickle cell disease, thalassemia, or hemophilia.
- Neither the baby nor any close family member can have previously received results from an at-home microbiome stool test (a home kit used to analyse bacteria in stool) — standard medical stool tests done at a clinic are acceptable.
