Who might be able to join this trial:
For people being evaluated for ALS:
- You are 18 years old or older
- Your doctor suspects you may have ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) but it has not necessarily been confirmed yet
- You are already scheduled to stay at the HFAR neurology department for a standard set of diagnostic tests as part of your normal care (such as nerve tests, brain scans, spinal fluid tests, and blood tests)
- You are willing and able to sign a written consent form to take part in the study
- You are covered by a social security or health insurance system
For healthy volunteers (comparison group):
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are willing and able to sign a written consent form to take part in the study
- You are covered by a social security or health insurance system
Who may not be able to join:
For people being evaluated for ALS:
- You are under legal guardianship or a court-appointed protection order
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have had an active infection in the 4 weeks before the study blood or fluid samples are taken
- You are currently being diagnosed with or treated for cancer
- Your ALS diagnosis is ultimately not confirmed after testing (this would mean leaving the study at that point)
For healthy volunteers:
- You are under legal guardianship or a court-appointed protection order
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have been diagnosed with a neurological disease
- You feel you have memory or thinking difficulties (confirm with trial site)
- You have had an active infection in the 4 weeks before the study samples are taken
- You are currently being diagnosed with or treated for cancer
