Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with aphasia (difficulty speaking or understanding language) following a stroke
  • People who are right-handed
  • People who are native Chinese speakers and can understand Mandarin
  • People between 18 and 80 years of age
  • People who have complete assessment results and brain scan data available
  • People for whom consent has been given by both the patient and their family

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose stroke affected the cerebellum (the lower back part of the brain), or whose brain scans did not fully capture the cerebellum
  • People with severe difficulty controlling the muscles used for speaking (known as severe dysarthria)
  • People who have epilepsy with occasional seizures occurring at the same time as their other conditions
  • People who have a pacemaker or a deep brain stimulator implanted in their body
  • People who have previously had brain tissue surgically removed due to conditions such as a brain tumour or brain abscess
  • People who have other serious psychiatric (mental health) conditions
