Who might be able to join this trial:

• The baby was born at the UZ Brussel maternity ward at 37 weeks of pregnancy or later
• The baby is in good health at the time of the initial check-up before the study begins
• The baby is between 1 and 14 days old at the time of joining the study
• The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are able and willing to follow the study instructions throughout the trial
• The baby has been assessed as suitable for the study by the research team
• The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are willing to avoid giving the baby any products containing probiotics from the first visit through to the last visit
• The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) have provided written consent for the baby to take part

Who may not be able to join:

• No parent or legal guardian is able to communicate in a local language used at the trial site
• The baby has a major condition present from birth (such as anal atresia or Down syndrome), or there is a suspicion of a long-term condition or illness (such as Hirschsprung's disease or a metabolic disorder)
• The baby has an immune system that does not work properly, either from birth or developed after birth
• The baby has had an infection at the time of the initial check-up or within the 7 days before it
• The baby has been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit after birth
• The research team has assessed the baby as not suitable for the study for any other reason
