Who might be able to join this trial:

• People with prostate cancer who are being treated at Henry Ford Health by the trial's lead or co-investigator, and who have chosen surgery as their treatment.
• People whose PSA (a prostate-related protein measured in the blood) is 20 or below.
• People whose cancer is at an early clinical stage (cT2 or lower), meaning it has not spread beyond the prostate.
• People whose cancer is mainly on one side of the prostate, with a Gleason score (a measure of how aggressive the cancer cells look) of 4+3 or lower on that side.
• People with no high-grade cancer (Gleason grade 4 or above) found on the opposite side of the prostate.
• People with a sexual function score of 17 or higher on a standard questionnaire called the SHIM, whether or not they use medication to assist with erections.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have received hormone therapy (androgen deprivation therapy) within the past 6 months.
• People whose cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes.
• People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic disease).
• People who have previously had treatment for prostate cancer, such as radiation therapy or a procedure called HIFU.
• People with serious health conditions that would make surgery unsafe, or whose life expectancy is estimated at less than 5 years based on a specific medical scoring tool.
• People who have ever been diagnosed with any other type of cancer.
