Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have had a stroke on one side of the brain, either caused by a blocked blood vessel or bleeding
• People aged 50 years or older
• People who are at least 6 months past their stroke
• People who are in a stable, reasonably good state of health
• People who are able to walk on their own for at least 1 minute (using a walking aid is allowed)
• People who are able to understand and follow simple instructions
• People whose stroke has left them with mild to moderate effects on daily life (based on a standard stroke scale called the mRS, with a score between 1 and 3)
• People who score 22 or higher on a standard thinking and memory test called the MoCA

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have other conditions affecting the brain or nervous system
• People whose stroke affected the cerebellum or brainstem (the lower and back parts of the brain)
• People who have a reason they cannot safely receive a brain stimulation technique called TMS — for example, those with a pacemaker, metal implants in the skull, a history of seizures, or who are pregnant
• People who have a medical reason they cannot safely exercise — for example, unstable chest pain (confirm with trial site)
• People who have severe difficulty with speech or language as a result of their stroke (based on a specific score on a standard stroke assessment)
• People whose participation would be limited by significant pain or illness
• People who are currently taking part in a formal rehabilitation program elsewhere
• People whose brain stimulation response level (called RMT) cannot be measured by the research team
• People who do not pass the safety screening process for TMS brain stimulation
