Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are over 40 years of age
- People who have been diagnosed with one of these specific types of glaucoma: primary open angle glaucoma, normal tension glaucoma, pigment dispersion glaucoma, or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma
- People whose glaucoma is not adequately controlled even with the maximum amount of medication they are able to tolerate
- People whose vision loss from glaucoma meets a certain level of severity, as measured by a standard eye test called Mean Deviation (confirm with trial site)
- People whose eye pressure falls within the range of 14–28 mmHg (a standard unit used to measure pressure inside the eye)
- People who have a sufficient number of healthy cells on the inner surface of the cornea (the clear front part of the eye), specifically at least 1000 cells per square millimetre
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have been diagnosed with closed-angle glaucoma, or other types of secondary open-angle glaucoma not listed above
- People who have no natural lens in the eye, or who have a certain type of artificial lens placed at the front of the eye
- People who have previously had glaucoma surgery, a glaucoma drainage device, or a procedure that uses heat or cold to reduce eye pressure
- People who had a specific type of laser eye treatment (selective laser trabeculoplasty) within the past 3 months
- People who had surgery involving the clear outer surface of the eye (conjunctiva) within the past 3 months
- People who had certain types of cataract or eye drainage surgery within the past 6 months
- People who have silicone oil inside the eye (sometimes used after retinal surgery)
- People who have no light perception at all in the affected eye
- People who are currently using steroid medications, either as eye drops or taken by mouth
- People who have certain conditions affecting the surface of the eye, such as a pterygium (a fleshy growth on the eye)
- People who have active inflammation or infection of the eye or eyelids, such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, or uveitis
- People who have gel from the back of the eye (vitreous) that has moved into the front part of the eye
- People who have, or have had within the past 6 months, abnormal new blood vessel growth on the iris (the coloured part of the eye)
- People who are unable or unwilling to give consent, accept being randomly assigned to a treatment group, or attend and participate in all required appointments
