Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis at a moderate to severe level (stages 2 to 4), confirmed by a knee X-ray taken within the past 3 years.
- People whose knee osteoarthritis causes significant difficulty with physical activities, based on a standard questionnaire score (WOMAC physical function score of 30 or above out of 100).
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
- People who have health insurance coverage.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have medical conditions that make spa-based water treatments (such as baths, water jets, or massage) unsafe for them — including active cancer, serious heart, liver or kidney problems, open leg ulcers, immune system conditions, certain vein or skin infections, active blood clots, or significant behavioural disorders, among others (confirm with trial site).
- People who have long-term pain caused by conditions other than osteoarthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or fibromyalgia.
- People who are already scheduled to have knee surgery within the next 7 months.
- People who have had spa therapy in the past 6 months, or who have received a corticosteroid injection into the knee joint in the past 90 days, or who have had hyaluronic acid, other joint lubricant treatments, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in the past 6 months.
- People who have plans to attend a spa treatment for any other reason between joining the trial and the final visit.
- People who live more than 30 kilometres from Enghien-les-Bains at the time the spa treatment takes place.
- Women who are able to become pregnant and are not using an approved form of hormonal contraception, or who plan to stop using contraception within the next 7 months.
- People who are unlikely to be able to follow the trial's requirements or attend all required visits, or who are unable to read or understand French.
- People who are under legal guardianship or who are already taking part in another clinical trial, or who are within a restricted period following a previous clinical trial.
