Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (a type of joint wear and tear) affecting the finger joints, confirmed using X-rays taken within the last 6 months and matching reported symptoms.

• People who have already tried at least one standard pain medication (such as anti-inflammatory gels or tablets, not including paracetamol) and found it did not work well enough.

• People who have a chronic inflammatory or rheumatic disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis).
• People who currently have an infectious disease.
• People with a known diagnosis of osteoporosis (brittle bones).
• People with a known diagnosis of diabetes.
• People who have previously been diagnosed with fibromyalgia (a widespread pain condition).
• People with a known diagnosis of myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness condition).
• People who have previously had surgery on their hand (for example, carpal tunnel surgery).
• People whose other medications are flagged as interacting with the study drug by the Dutch Medication Surveillance System (confirm with trial site).
• People who currently have a stomach or duodenal ulcer.
• People who currently have an active infection.
• People with liver cirrhosis (serious liver scarring).
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• People who are known to not respond to, or cannot tolerate, the study drug methylprednisolone.
• People who are not able to read or write in Dutch.
• People who have a diagnosis of epilepsy.
• People considered to be at risk of a psychiatric disorder (confirm with trial site).
