Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have had an acute stroke caused by a blood clot within the last 3 hours, and have already received the standard clot-dissolving treatment given through a vein (IV)
  • You had a measurable level of stroke-related neurological symptoms before receiving the first clot-dissolving treatment, based on a standard stroke severity score (NIHSS score of 4 or higher)
  • Your symptoms have not improved significantly, or got worse after initial improvement, one hour after the first clot-dissolving treatment, and a brain scan has confirmed there is no bleeding in the brain
  • A second dose of the clot-dissolving treatment can be given within 4.5 hours of when your stroke symptoms first started
  • This is your first stroke, or you have had a previous stroke but recovered well with little to no lasting disability
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are planned to have a procedure to physically remove the clot from inside a blood vessel
  • You have significant changes to the white matter in your brain shown on a brain scan (a high Fazekas score of 3) (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a blood clotting problem, including certain abnormal blood test results (such as INR above 1.5), identified before the first clot-dissolving treatment
  • You are pregnant
  • You have a known allergy to the medication being tested in this trial
  • You have taken two different blood-thinning/anti-clotting tablets together in the 24 hours before receiving the clot-dissolving treatment
  • You have other serious health conditions alongside your stroke
  • You have taken part in another clinical trial within the last 3 months
  • The trial doctor has determined for any other reason that you are not suitable for this study
