Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have had breast cancer surgery (either full breast removal or a smaller procedure to remove the tumour), with or without removal of lymph nodes under the arm
  • You have ongoing pain, tightness, or limited movement on the same side as your surgery that has lasted for 3 months or more after the operation
  • Your symptoms are significant enough to score at or above a certain level on two standard questionnaires — one measuring arm, shoulder and hand difficulties, and one measuring pain out of 10 (confirm with trial site for exact score requirements)
  • You have already completed 12 weeks of standard physiotherapy but have not seen enough improvement in your pain or movement (confirm with trial site for exact definitions of "not enough improvement")
  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You are able to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • There is any sign that your cancer has come back locally or spread to other parts of the body
  • You currently have active lymphoedema (swelling caused by fluid build-up) that needs ongoing specialist treatment
  • Your shoulder problems are mainly caused by a separate shoulder condition, such as a severely frozen shoulder or a torn rotator cuff, rather than being related to your breast cancer surgery
  • You have an active infection, a skin problem, or a wound that has not fully healed in the area where an injection would be given
  • You have a blood clotting disorder or take blood-thinning medication that would make having an injection unsafe
  • You have a known allergy to dextrose (a type of sugar) or any other substance used in the injections for this trial
  • You are pregnant or have another medical condition that would make it unsafe or unsuitable to take part (confirm with trial site for specific conditions)
