Healthy participants:

  • People aged 18 to 65 years old.

  • People aged 18 to 65 years old who have been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, acute psychosis, bipolar disorder with psychotic symptoms, or psychosis not otherwise specified.
  • People whose first visit to the trial takes place during a period of remission (a calmer, more stable phase of their condition).
  • People whose current symptoms — specifically hallucinations, unusual thoughts, and disorganised thinking — are rated as mild or lower on a standard clinical scale used by doctors.
  • People who speak and understand English, German, Dutch, French, Czech, or Turkish fluently (or at an equivalent level).
  • People who own a smartphone and are comfortable using a mobile app to record speech.
  • People who are able to follow the study schedule and attend all required appointments.
  • People who are willing and able to give signed, informed agreement to take part before enrolling.
  • People with psychosis who also have other psychiatric or physical health conditions, or who use drugs or alcohol, may still be considered eligible, as the trial aims to reflect the broader population of people living with psychosis.

Who may not be able to join:

Healthy participants:

  • People with a history of major health conditions, such as heart disease, neurological conditions, metabolic disorders, kidney or liver problems, breathing problems, or speech disorders.
  • People who use recreational drugs or who have psychiatric conditions related to alcohol use.
  • People who have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, or any other psychiatric condition.
  • People who have a family history of depression, anxiety, or other psychiatric conditions.
  • People who are unwilling or unable to understand what the study involves and why it is being conducted.

People with psychosis:

  • People with a severe speech disorder, such as aphasia or severe stuttering, that would prevent clear speech recordings from being made.
  • People who are unwilling or unable to understand what the study involves and why it is being conducted.
