Who might be able to join this trial:

• Children between 4 and 15 years old (inclusive) who come to the emergency department with an asthma attack, where treatment guidelines recommend oral steroids as part of their care.
• Children whose parents or carers speak Slovakian, Arabic, or Urdu (rather than English) may also be eligible, as interpreter services and information materials are available in those languages.

Who may not be able to join:

• Children who have already been given oral or intravenous (IV) steroids within the last 2 weeks.
• Children who have a known allergy or sensitivity to the study medication.
• Children who currently have stridor (a high-pitched, noisy breathing sound distinct from asthma symptoms).
• Children who are experiencing their very first episode of wheezing and have not previously been diagnosed with asthma.
• Children who have been identified as having particularly difficult-to-manage asthma and typically need longer courses of steroids as part of their standard treatment.
• Children who are having a life-threatening asthma episode.
• Children who have another medical condition that requires them to take steroids when they are unwell.
• Children who are currently taking part in another research study, or who have recently participated in one before being considered for this trial.
