Who might be able to join this trial:

• You have been diagnosed with a type of esophageal cancer called squamous cell carcinoma that cannot be removed by surgery and has either spread locally or to other parts of the body (confirmed by a biopsy or cell test)
• Your cancer has gotten worse after trying 1 or 2 previous treatments for this condition
• Your cancer can be measured on scans or tests
• If you have HIV, it is well-controlled with medication
• Your organs (such as kidneys, liver, and heart) are working well enough as determined by your doctor

Who may not be able to join:

• Your esophageal cancer has been confirmed to be a different type, called adenocarcinoma or adenosquamous carcinoma
• You have fluid build-up around your lungs, heart, or abdomen that is difficult to control and needs frequent draining or medical treatment
• You have a significant eye or cornea condition
• You have had a stroke, mini-stroke, or another blood clot event affecting an artery in the past 6 months
• You have HIV and also have a history of a condition called Kaposi's sarcoma or Multicentric Castleman's Disease
• You have heart or blood vessel disease that is not well controlled
• You have or are being treated for another cancer that has been active or required treatment in the past 3 years
• Your cancer has spread to your brain or the lining around your brain and spine in an active way
• You have ever had a lung condition called interstitial lung disease (ILD) or pneumonitis, except for a specific type caused by radiation that did not need steroid treatment (confirm with trial site)
• You currently have an active infection that requires treatment through a drip or medication (other than certain permitted treatments)
• You have serious lung problems caused by other illnesses, including conditions such as severe asthma, severe COPD, blood clots in the lungs within the last 3 months, restricted lung function, autoimmune diseases affecting the lungs, or if you have had a lung removed or currently need extra oxygen to breathe
