Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) based on having at least two of these three features: irregular or absent periods, signs of high male hormones (such as excess hair or acne, or shown in blood tests), or an ultrasound showing a polycystic-looking ovary — with other similar conditions ruled out.
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 24 or above (using the Chinese obesity threshold).
  • Your weight has been stable for at least 3 months before joining (not changing by more than about 2 kg / 4.4 lbs).
  • You are willing to keep your usual level of physical activity the same throughout the study.
  • You have been living in the designated study area for at least 6 months.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
  • You have a thyroid condition, high prolactin levels, Cushing's syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, a hormone-producing tumor, or any other hormone or metabolism disorder (confirm with trial site).
  • You have used hormonal contraceptives (such as the pill), metformin, weight-loss medications, GLP-1 medications (such as Ozempic), anti-androgen medications, or steroid tablets in the past 3 months.
  • You have a serious liver, kidney, or heart condition.
  • You have a digestive condition that would make eating a high-fibre diet difficult or unsafe (confirm with trial site).
  • You have previously had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery.
  • You are currently taking part in another diet or nutrition programme.
  • You have a cognitive impairment or a communication barrier that would make it difficult to understand the study or give your consent.
  • You plan to start any new weight-loss medications or supplements during the study — doing so would be considered a breach of the study rules.
