Who might be able to join this trial:
People who are already enrolled in a research study called the Detroit Research on Cancer Survivors (Detroit ROCS)
People who were diagnosed with breast cancer, prostate cancer, or colorectal cancer on or after January 1, 2013
People who have received or are currently receiving cancer care at Karmanos Cancer Institute
People who meet at least one of the following guidelines related to cancer genetic testing:
For breast cancer:
- Diagnosed with breast cancer at age 50 or younger
- Diagnosed with a type called "triple-negative" breast cancer
- Has at least one close family member (parent, sibling, child, grandparent, aunt, or uncle) diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50
- Has at least one close family member diagnosed with ovarian cancer
- Has two or more close family members diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer
- Diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50 and has had a second separate breast cancer at any age
- Has had two or more separate breast cancer diagnoses at any age
For prostate cancer:
- Personal history of high-risk or very high-risk prostate cancer
- Personal history of prostate cancer that has spread to nearby areas or other parts of the body
- Personal history of lower-risk prostate cancer along with a family history that includes a father, brother, or multiple relatives with prostate cancer diagnosed before age 60; or at least one relative with breast, ovarian, or pancreatic cancer; or at least one relative with colorectal, ovarian, pancreatic, or kidney cancer
For colorectal cancer:
- Diagnosed with colorectal cancer at age 50 or younger
- Has at least one close family member diagnosed with a hereditary colorectal cancer syndrome (called HNPCC) before age 50
- Has at least two close family members diagnosed with an HNPCC-related cancer at any age
- Has had colorectal cancer plus at least one other cancer including endometrial, ovarian, gastric, pancreatic, or prostate cancer
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had genetic counselling or genetic testing
