Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and have been followed up by a doctor or service for at least one year
- People who have been taking antipsychotic medication regularly for at least three months with good adherence to their prescribed doses
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are able to speak and communicate in Cantonese
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have, or have had in the past, any other type of psychotic disorder
- People who have had thoughts of suicide or self-harm, even briefly, or have harmed themselves in the past
- People with a known history of violent or aggressive behaviour, or who have had any involvement with the legal system related to such behaviour
- People whose care has been classified as special or intensive care due to serious incidents such as arson, assault, rape, or murder
- People who have ever had a problem with substance abuse (such as opioids, cocaine, marijuana, or stimulants), or who are currently receiving treatment for substance abuse
- People whose alcohol intake over the last six months has regularly exceeded 25 standard drinks per week (for men) or 20 standard drinks per week (for women)
- People who received a diagnosis of alcohol or drug dependence within the year before joining the trial
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study period
- People who have a current or past diagnosis of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- People who have a history of epilepsy or a seizure disorder
- People who experience disorientation, have a developmental disability, or have an organic mental disorder (a mental condition caused by a physical condition affecting the brain)
- People who do not meet the brain scanning (fMRI) safety requirements set by the University Research Facility in Behavioural and Systems Neuroscience (UBSN) at PolyU (confirm with trial site for full details)
