Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults between the ages of 18 and 80 years old
• People who have been diagnosed with hemiplegia (paralysis or weakness on one side of the body)
• People who are in the subacute phase of their condition, meaning between 1 and 6 months after it first began
• People who are able to tolerate an ultrasound scan of the diaphragm (the main breathing muscle) and breathing strength tests
• People who score 24 or above on a standard memory and thinking assessment called the MMSE
• People who are sufficiently alert and able to follow instructions and cooperate during the study

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have existing lung conditions such as COPD, asthma, or interstitial lung disease
• People who have paralysis of the diaphragm or a significant deformity of the chest wall
• People who have an acute (sudden or active) heart or lung condition that prevents breathing function tests from being carried out
• People with severe cognitive impairment (serious difficulties with thinking or memory) that could affect the accuracy of measurements
• People who are unable to have an ultrasound assessment due to previous surgery on the stomach or abdomen
