Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 75 years or older
- People who are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency), first-time total hip replacement surgery
- People whose surgery is planned to use spinal anaesthesia (numbing from the waist down)

- People for whom spinal or regional anaesthesia is not medically appropriate — for example, due to blood clotting problems, infection near the injection site, or allergy to local anaesthetic medicines
- People who already have nerve or neurological problems in the leg being operated on that would interfere with assessments
- People who have been regularly taking high doses of opioid pain medicines (more than 30 mg morphine-equivalent per day for more than 2 weeks before surgery)
- People with severely reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site)
- People with severe liver problems
- People who have taken part in another interventional clinical trial within the past 30 days
- People with any other condition that the trial investigators believe could interfere with safe participation or following the study procedures
