Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged 18 to 75 years, of any gender
• People whose biopsy has confirmed a specific type of oesophageal cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) located in the chest portion of the oesophagus, at a locally advanced stage (confirm with trial site for exact staging details)
• People whose cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body, and where scans show no suspicious lymph nodes in the neck
• People who are in generally good physical condition and able to carry out daily activities (rated 0 or 1 on a standard performance scale used by doctors)
• People whose cancer is considered likely to be fully removable by surgery
• People who have not previously received any treatment for their oesophageal cancer, including medicines, surgery, or radiotherapy
• People whose cancer has at least one measurable area visible on scans, assessed using a standard measurement system
• People whose blood counts, liver function, kidney function, protein levels, heart function, and lung function all meet the minimum levels required by the trial (confirm specific values with the trial site)
• Women of childbearing potential who have had a negative pregnancy test within 7 days before joining, are not breastfeeding, and agree to use contraception during the trial and for 6 months after it ends
• Men who agree to use contraception during the trial and for 6 months after it ends
• People who are willing and able to provide signed consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have received certain targeted cancer medicines (EGFR monoclonal antibodies or EGFR-TKIs) within the past 6 months
• People who have taken part in another interventional clinical trial within the past 30 days
• People with serious other health conditions, such as heart failure, uncontrolled irregular heartbeat, severe kidney disease, thyroid problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, mental health disorders, or severe ongoing diarrhoea — or anyone the trial doctor considers unsuitable due to other health concerns
• People with brain metastases (cancer that has spread to the brain) that are causing symptoms, or where symptoms have only been controlled for less than 3 months
• People with a history of another cancer, unless it was a fully cured early cervical cancer, a cured skin basal cell cancer, or another cancer that was fully treated more than 5 years ago
• People with a current active infection or infectious disease
• People whose oesophageal cancer appears in more than one separate location, or where there are signs of a hole or abnormal opening in the oesophagus
• People whose scans show the tumour is growing into major blood vessels, or where the trial doctor considers there to be a high risk of serious bleeding from blood vessel involvement
• People with a known allergy to any of the medicines used in this trial
• People with moderate or severe nerve damage (such as tingling or numbness in the hands or feet) or significant hearing loss, rated at grade 2 or higher on a standard medical scale
• Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People with a history of substance abuse involving psychiatric drugs who are unable to stop, or people with a diagnosed mental disorder
• People who are unwilling to participate or unable to provide signed consent
• Anyone the trial doctor determines to be unsuitable for the study for any other reason
