Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 75 years old
- You have been diagnosed with moderately severe or severe acute pancreatitis, confirmed by a specific scoring system on a CT scan (score greater than 4)
- Your illness has been going on for between 15 and 21 days
- You already have a feeding tube in place that goes through your nose into your small intestine
- You have no medical reasons that would completely prevent you from receiving a fecal microbiota transplant (a treatment using donated stool to help restore gut bacteria)
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently have a serious infection affecting your whole body
- You have an infection outside the gut that requires treatment with powerful, wide-range antibiotics
- You have a blocked bowel, active bleeding in your digestive tract, a hole in your intestine, severe inflammation of the colon, or a dangerously enlarged colon
- You are unable to receive at least half of your required daily calories through a feeding tube due to severe diarrhea, major scarring/narrowing of the intestine, serious gut bleeding, or a high-output intestinal leak
- You had a long-term condition affecting your heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, or blood before you were admitted to hospital
- You have had multiple organ failure lasting for more than 2 weeks
- You currently have an active cancer
- You have an autoimmune disease or a weakened immune system — including if you have had an organ or bone marrow transplant, have HIV/AIDS, or take long-term medications that suppress the immune system
- You were born with, or have developed, a condition that means your immune system does not work properly
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a serious mental health condition
