Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who are already enrolled in a related study called GASTROBRAIN, with medical records and treatment history available.
- People who have been diagnosed with stomach cancer (gastric adenocarcinoma), esophageal cancer (either of two specific types), or cancer at the junction where the esophagus meets the stomach, confirmed through laboratory analysis of tissue.
- People who have had surgery to remove cancer that had spread to the brain, where tissue samples from that surgery are still stored, and where laboratory testing confirmed the brain tumour came from the stomach or esophageal cancer.
- People for whom stored tissue samples from both the original (primary) cancer and the brain tumour are available as a matched pair.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had, or currently have, another cancer in a part of the body other than the stomach, esophagus, or the area where those two meet.
- People whose primary cancer originated outside the digestive tract.
- People whose cancer has been confirmed through laboratory testing to be a non-epithelial type, such as neuroendocrine tumours, sarcoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumour, or lymphoma.
- People whose cancer spread only to the bones of the skull or soft tissues of the head, without actually reaching the brain tissue itself.
- People whose stored tissue samples do not meet the minimum quality standards needed for molecular testing — for example, if the tumour cell content is too low or the genetic material has broken down too much (confirm with trial site).
- People for whom only one of the two required tissue samples (either the primary tumour or the brain tumour) is available.
