Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are between 18 and 65 years old at the time of initial screening
- People who are able to understand the study and agree to take part in it
- People who have been formally diagnosed with schizophrenia, confirmed through a detailed psychiatric assessment using recognised diagnostic guidelines
- People who are willing and able to stay in a hospital setting for most of the study, follow instructions, and meet the study's requirements
- People who are currently experiencing a flare-up or worsening of psychotic symptoms that started less than 2 months before screening, and who need to be hospitalised because of it
- People who, if already in hospital at screening, have been admitted for less than 2 weeks for this current episode
- People whose symptom severity falls within a specific range on a standard psychiatric rating scale, with at least two of the following symptoms rated as moderate or worse: unusual beliefs (delusions), disorganised thinking, hearing or seeing things others don't (hallucinations), or feelings of suspicion or persecution
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a primary mental health diagnosis other than schizophrenia in the 12 months before screening
- People whose schizophrenia has not responded to two or more adequate antipsychotic medication treatments in the past, or who have previously been treated with clozapine for treatment-resistant schizophrenia
- People who need to take certain medications known to significantly affect how the body processes other drugs (called moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers) (confirm with trial site)
- People who have received a long-acting injectable antipsychotic within the last 12 weeks before the study starts — or within the last 24 weeks if the medication was INVEGA TRINZA®
