Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are able to understand the study plan and are willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part.
- People aged between 40 and 80 years old, of any gender.
- People who have been diagnosed with moderate to severe COPD (a serious lung condition affecting breathing), classified as GOLD Grade II to IV under international COPD guidelines.
- People who have been regularly using standard COPD medications for more than 3 months, with their condition having been stable for at least 4 weeks.
- People whose COPD has not responded well enough to standard medical treatments.
- People with a life expectancy of more than 6 months.
- People who have not smoked for at least six months before joining, and who are willing to remain smoke-free throughout the entire study period.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have other serious lung conditions alongside COPD, such as asthma, active tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary embolism, interstitial lung disease, or pulmonary hypertension.
- People who have had lung surgery (such as removal of part or all of a lung, or lung volume reduction surgery) or certain airway procedures within the past 12 months.
- People who have needed breathing support through a machine (invasive or non-invasive ventilation) in the past 4 weeks, or who have had a moderate to severe COPD flare-up in the past 4 weeks.
- People who test negative for HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), or syphilis (confirm with trial site regarding how this criterion is applied).
- People who have a history of cancer or who are currently being treated for cancer.
- People who have an autoimmune disease that requires long-term use of steroid or immune-suppressing medications.
- People with poorly controlled diabetes (fasting blood sugar above 10.0 mmol/L) or other serious metabolic conditions.
- People with a history of alcohol or drug abuse, or a mental health condition that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are unable or unwilling to follow the study schedule and procedures.
