Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults aged 18 to 70 years old (male or female) may be considered.
• People who have had a stroke affecting one side of the brain, with the affected area being larger than a certain size, involving the outer or inner brain tissue (or both), may be considered.
• People whose stroke happened between 6 months and 18 months ago may be considered.
• People who have arm weakness or difficulty moving their arm as a result of the stroke may be considered.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who cannot have MRI, CT scan, or PET scan brain imaging for any medical reason may not be eligible.
• People who cannot have transcranial magnetic stimulation (a brain stimulation technique), EEG (brain wave recording), or MEG (another type of brain activity scan) may not be eligible.
• People who cannot safely have general anaesthesia or surgery (for example, due to a blood clotting problem) may not be eligible.
• People with severe damage to the brain's white matter (the communication pathways in the brain) may not be eligible.
• People who have had a previous stroke that caused symptoms may not be eligible.
• People who already had dementia or significant memory or thinking difficulties before this trial may not be eligible.
• People who cannot tolerate electrical stimulation may not be eligible.
• People with severe stiffness or muscle tightness in the affected arm (rated 4 or 5 on a standard medical scale) may not be eligible.
• People with skin sores, infections, or skin inflammation on the scalp may not be eligible.
• People who show abnormal brain electrical activity associated with seizures, even if they have never had a seizure, may not be eligible.
• People whose overall health or other medical conditions would prevent them from safely completing the trial may not be eligible.
• People who have metal clips or brain stimulator devices already implanted in their brain may not be eligible.
• People with severe involuntary movements or severe dystonia (a movement disorder causing muscle contractions) may not be eligible.
• Certain groups protected under French public health law may not be eligible, including pregnant women, women in labour, breastfeeding mothers, people detained by legal or administrative order, people under certain forms of involuntary psychiatric care, people living in healthcare or social care facilities for reasons unrelated to research, and people under the age of 18.
• People who do not meet specific brain and nervous system criteria identified during pre-implant assessment tests may not be eligible — for example, if there are no remaining nerve pathways between the brain and the muscles, if a person is unable or unwilling to use the brain-computer interface system, if the brain shows no activity during movement imagination tasks, or if the shape of the skull at the implant site is not compatible with the device (confirm with trial site).
