Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are Singaporean citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- People aged 21 to 65 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with asthma by a doctor for at least 4 weeks
- People who are on, or are about to start, a mild-to-moderate level of asthma treatment (known as GINA 2025 steps 1 to 3) (confirm with trial site)
- People who have not had a serious worsening of asthma symptoms in the 4 weeks before joining the trial (a serious worsening means needing steroid tablets or injections for 3 or more days, a visit to the emergency department, or a hospital stay)
- People who are able and willing to attend check-up appointments roughly every 4 months over a 1-year period
- People who are able to give informed consent to participate
- People who have a stable heart and blood pressure condition, meaning no active heart disease or irregular heartbeat symptoms, and any high blood pressure is well controlled
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had life-threatening asthma in the past that required a breathing tube or a stay in an intensive care unit
- People with severe asthma or asthma that has been difficult to treat
- People currently taking long-term immune-suppressing medications, the medication Montelukast (a leukotriene receptor antagonist), Theophylline, or long-term steroid tablets
- People who have a known condition other than asthma that causes high levels of a certain type of white blood cell called eosinophils (for example, a parasitic infection), as determined by the treating doctor
- People currently using beta-blocker medications, including beta-blocker eye drops
- People who have used steroid tablets, suppositories, or injections in the 30 days before joining, or a long-acting steroid injection in the 12 weeks before joining
- People who have a diagnosed lung condition other than asthma, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), scarring of the lungs (interstitial lung disease), or bronchiectasis
- People who have another significant illness or condition — affecting the heart, digestive system, liver, kidneys, nervous system, muscles or joints, hormones, mental health, or other areas — that the trial doctor believes could affect safety or the trial's results (confirm with trial site)
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial for asthma
- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period
- People who plan to travel outside of Singapore for 16 or more consecutive weeks during the study
- People whom the trial doctor assesses as unlikely to be able to follow study instructions or complete study procedures
