Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who do not have severe joint deformity in the knuckle joints of the hand
- People who have active joint disease, meaning at least one joint that is tender and at least one joint that is swollen, despite having taken anti-inflammatory pain medicines (such as ibuprofen or naproxen) for at least 4 weeks
- People who have at least one sign that the disease may get worse over time, such as many joints being affected, joint damage seen on imaging scans, high levels of inflammation in blood tests, swollen fingers or toes, nail changes, or significant difficulty with daily activities
- People whose joint symptoms started no more than 2 years ago
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently taking certain disease-modifying medicines (called csDMARDs), unless those medicines were prescribed specifically for skin psoriasis (for example, cyclosporin)
- People who have significant difficulty performing everyday activities, self-care, or hobbies
- People who are pregnant
- People who have previously been treated with a certain category of stronger biological or targeted medicines (called b/tsDMARDs)
- People whose main problem is psoriatic arthritis affecting the spine, or who have serious eye inflammation or bowel inflammation that would require immediate treatment with stronger biological medicines
- People who have other active inflammatory conditions besides psoriatic arthritis
- People who have had an active infection in the 2 weeks before joining the trial, or who have a history of ongoing, repeated, or long-term infections, including tuberculosis
- People who have had a cancer diagnosis in the past 5 years (some skin cancers and very early-stage cancers may be exceptions — confirm with trial site)
- People for whom the medicines methotrexate or adalimumab are medically unsuitable or unsafe
