AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • A doctor has determined that you have swallowing difficulties, based on things like coughing or throat-clearing when drinking water, reduced movement in the throat area during a physical check, or having at least one symptom related to trouble swallowing
  • You are able to swallow automatically (your swallowing reflex still works)
  • You have had a stroke within the last 6 months
  • Your basic body functions (such as heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing) are stable
  • You are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have severe memory or thinking problems (based on a specific memory test score), dementia, or serious difficulty communicating due to problems with language after a stroke
  • You have a device implanted in your body that regulates your heart rhythm (such as a defibrillator), have broken or wounded skin where electrodes would be placed, or have active epilepsy — as these make electrical stimulation unsafe for you
  • You have had surgery on your neck or have difficulty breathing
  • You have been diagnosed with cancer
