Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must be at least 18 years old (or at least 40 years old if you have COPD)
- You have been diagnosed with one of the following conditions: asthma, a fungal-related lung condition called ABPA, bronchiectasis, sleep apnea (OSAS), or COPD
- You have a specific breathing pattern on lung function tests where airflow is relatively normal but overall lung capacity is reduced — known as PRISm (confirm with trial site)
- If joining as a "smoking control": you have smoked at least 10 pack-years, have normal lung function, and have no ongoing breathing symptoms
- If joining as a "healthy control": you have normal lung function, low levels of airway inflammation and allergy markers on tests, no long-term illness, have smoked less than 10 pack-years, and have not taken immune-suppressing medicines in the last 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a serious lung condition other than those listed above, such as a blood clot in the lungs, a collapsed lung, high blood pressure in the lungs, scarring of the lungs, or active lung cancer
- You have a serious illness affecting other parts of your body, such as a recent heart attack, severe heart rhythm problems, liver or kidney failure, a blood disorder, or cancer
- You have had a sudden worsening of your condition in the last 4 weeks, or have recently taken antibiotics, antifungal medicines, immune-suppressing drugs, chemotherapy, or steroid tablets (unless these are part of your regular long-term treatment)
- You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- The trial team does not feel you would be able to follow the study requirements reliably
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial
