Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children between 5 and 16 years old, either male or female
- Children who have been diagnosed with asthma by a doctor and need regular asthma medication (inhaled corticosteroids, with or without a long-acting reliever) taken through a metered-dose inhaler
- Children whose asthma is considered partly controlled or uncontrolled according to standard medical guidelines (GINA criteria)
- Children whose parent or legal guardian has signed a consent form, and children aged 10 or older who have also given their own agreement to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have had a severe asthma attack treated with steroid tablets or injections in the last two weeks, or who currently have a respiratory tract infection such as a chest or airway infection
- Children who have been diagnosed with another long-term lung condition in addition to asthma, such as cystic fibrosis
- Children whose asthma is classified as severe under standard medical guidelines (GINA definitions)
- Children who have certain serious underlying health conditions, such as severe congenital heart disease or cancer (the trial team will assess other conditions case by case)
- Children who have a weakened immune system or who are taking medication that suppresses the immune system
- Children in Luxembourg who are taking part in the biomarker research component and are currently receiving immunotherapy (confirm with trial site)
- Children who have a neurological condition or a cognitive impairment that affects thinking or understanding
- Brothers or sisters of a child who is already enrolled in this study
