Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who are able to understand what the study involves and are willing to sign a written agreement to participate
- People who are willing and able to attend study visits and follow study procedures
For people joining as "case" participants (those with eye conditions being studied):
- People who have age-related macular degeneration at an intermediate or advanced stage, including a form called geographic atrophy or the wet (neovascular) form
- People who have diabetic retinopathy (damage to the eye caused by diabetes), whether mild or more advanced, with or without related swelling in the central part of the eye
- People who are having surgery for a retinal detachment (where the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye lifts away), either for the first time or for a repeat occurrence
For people joining as "control" participants (those without the eye conditions being studied):
- People scheduled for cataract surgery who have no known retinal diseases
- Outpatients (people seen in a clinic, not admitted to hospital) who have no known retinal diseases
- For the retinal detachment comparison group: people having surgery on the central part of the back of the eye (such as for a wrinkled or holes in the central retina) or cataract surgery where the retina is still attached
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who currently have an infectious disease affecting the eye
- People who have certain abnormalities in specific proteins found in the blood (confirm with trial site)
