For Healthy Individuals
Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have never tried whole-body vibration therapy before and have never worked in a job or played a sport that regularly exposes them to vibration.
- People aged between 18 and 65 years.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant.
- People who have a blood clot (acute thrombosis).
- People with serious heart or blood vessel disease.
- People who have a cardiac pacemaker (a device implanted to help regulate heartbeat).
- People with recent wounds from an injury or surgery.
- People who have an artificial hip or knee joint.
- People with an acute hernia, disc problems in the spine, or a specific spinal bone condition called spondylolysis.
- People with severe diabetes.
- People with epilepsy.
- People with a recent infection.
- People who experience severe migraines.
- People who have a tumour.
- People who have recently had an intrauterine device (IUD), metal pins, or metal plates implanted.
- People with kidney stones.
- People with organ failure.
- People living with a musculoskeletal, breathing, neurological, or heart and blood vessel condition, or any form of ongoing or recent pain.
- People who are currently taking part in another research study.
- People who already exercise regularly at a moderate intensity three or more times per week.
For People with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been formally diagnosed with COPD and are classified as GOLD stage II, III, or IV (a medical staging system for COPD severity — confirm with trial site if unsure of stage).
- People who have not been hospitalised in the past two months.
- People who have not taken part in any rehabilitation programme in the past two months.
- People who are able to participate in an exercise training programme.
- People aged 18 years or older.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another serious lung condition, such as bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, or tuberculosis.
- People who currently smoke.
- People who have an artificial hip or knee joint.
- People with severe joint disease or a history of surgery on the lower limbs.
- People with a history of bleeding inside the eye (vitreous haemorrhage).
- People who rely on supplemental oxygen to breathe.
- People who drink heavily (more than 80 grams of alcohol per day).
- People with severe malnutrition, defined as a BMI below 19 kg/m².
- People who are pregnant.
