Who might be able to join this trial:
For stroke patients:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You have been diagnosed with a stroke (either a blocked blood vessel or a bleed in the brain) and have been assessed as having some memory or thinking difficulties linked to your stroke
- You are in the later recovery stage of your stroke (not the immediate aftermath)
- You scored in a specific range on a standard memory and thinking test called the MoCA (the score range considered depends on your years of education — confirm with trial site)
- You are able to sit up on your own, with or without support nearby
- You are able to lift and use at least one arm while sitting
- You have a main caregiver — someone (paid or unpaid) who helps you most of the time
- You are able to communicate in Chinese and agree to take part
- You are currently staying in a geriatric rehabilitation ward and are not expected to be discharged within the next 3 months
For caregivers:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are able to communicate in Chinese and agree to take part
- You are in good enough health to provide support to the stroke patient
Who may not be able to join:
For stroke patients:
- You have memory or thinking problems caused by something other than your stroke, such as Alzheimer's disease or HIV/AIDS
- Your stroke has been rated as very severe on a standard medical scale (NIHSS score above 16)
- You have serious hearing or vision problems
- You have serious complications from your stroke, such as significant difficulty understanding language or a blood clot in a vein
- You have a serious current or past medical condition, such as a heart attack, a fitted pacemaker or defibrillator, organ failure, cancer, a mental health condition, or another neurological condition like Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis
- You have had clot-busting treatment, surgery, a joint replacement, or a bone fracture in the past six months
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have practised Tai Chi or similar mind-body exercises (such as Yoga, Qigong, or mindfulness) regularly (at least 3 times a week) in the past six months
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial that could affect this study
For caregivers:
- You have memory or thinking difficulties, based on a short mental assessment test (AMT score of 7 or below)
- You are a medical trainee or a physiotherapist
- You have practised Tai Chi or similar mind-body exercises regularly (at least 3 times a week) in the past six months
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial that could affect this study
