Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with an acute ischaemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel), confirmed by a CT or MRI scan
  • You have received or are planned to receive a clot-dissolving medication given through a drip (IV) either within 4.5 hours of your stroke starting, or within 4.5 to 24 hours based on your doctor's guidelines
  • The study drug can be given to you before or within 2 hours of starting the clot-dissolving treatment
  • Your stroke severity falls within a specific range on a standard medical scale, and you had little or no difficulty with consciousness before treatment (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You had some level of physical disability before this stroke, based on a standard disability scale (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a history of a serious bowel condition called pseudomembranous colitis or colitis caused by antibiotics
  • You are known to be allergic or sensitive to a group of antibiotics called tetracyclines, or to minocycline specifically
  • You are known to be resistant to other tetracycline-type antibiotics
  • You have taken tetracycline antibiotics in the past 7 days
  • You currently have a known bacterial infection such as pneumonia or a urinary tract infection that requires antibiotic treatment
  • You have had a bleed in or around the brain in the past 3 months (such as a brain bleed or blood clot on the brain)
  • Your brain scan shows a tumour, abscess, abnormal blood vessel, or another major brain condition that is not stroke-related
  • Your stroke is thought to be caused by a rare or unclear reason, such as a torn blood vessel or inflamed blood vessels (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a history of systemic lupus erythematosus (an immune system disease)
  • You have severe liver or kidney problems, based on specific blood test results (confirm with trial site)
  • You have used certain skin or hormone-related medications, including tretinoin or anabolic steroids, in the past 3 months (confirm with trial site)
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or able to become pregnant and are not willing to use effective contraception throughout the study
  • You have a serious non-stroke-related illness where your life expectancy is less than 6 months
  • You have taken part in another clinical trial in the past 30 days
  • You have a physical, cognitive, emotional, or mental condition that would prevent you from understanding or following the study procedures
