Who might be able to join this trial:

  • The child has been diagnosed with Kawasaki disease that has led to problems with the coronary arteries (the blood vessels around the heart), and it has been fewer than 20 days since symptoms started — or more than 20 days have passed but the inflammation from Kawasaki disease is still not under control.
  • The child has already received or is currently receiving standard treatments such as IVIG (an infusion given through a drip) and/or other medicines to reduce inflammation.
  • The child's parent or guardian agrees to the child receiving atorvastatin (a type of medication) as part of the trial and has signed the consent form.

Who may not be able to join:

  • The child has a family history of a condition that causes very high cholesterol, is already taking statin medications, or has a serious long-term illness.
  • The child has certain abnormal blood test results — specifically, a muscle enzyme level (CK) that is too high, a total cholesterol level that is too low, or liver enzyme levels (ALT or AST) that are more than twice the normal limit (confirm with trial site).
  • The child's parent or guardian does not agree to the child receiving atorvastatin as part of the trial.
